Dr. Erskine will both teach about and demonstrate a variety of therapy methods that may include:

• Creating developmental images and hypotheses;

• Assessing and responding to unconscious attachment patterns;

• Converting body sensations and affect to language;

• Enabling the formation of vocabulary and concepts;

• Constructing life narratives through inference;

• Using phenomenological and historical inquiry, and

• Facilitating an emotionally safe therapeutic age regression.

Sponsored by BIOS Psychotherapy Training Institute Bilbao, Spain

Five-day Training Workshop

Wednesday, June 29 to Sunday, July 3, 2016 Bilbao (Spain)

This five-day didactic training course will include a series of formal lectures and group discussions about when and how to use a variety of psychotherapy methods that are effective with a diversity of clients. We may cover such topics as: reflective responding, acknowledgement and validation, balancing phenomenological and historical inquiry, working with therapeutic inference, facilitating a therapeutic narrative, the significance of affective and developmental attunement, the effective use of confrontation, calibrating for juxtaposition reactions, and responding to oscillating relational-needs.

"We will discuss when to use and when not to use phenomenological and historical inquiry, empathetic description, or therapeutic direction. We will explore the choice between working within the therapeutic relationship or using the therapeutic relationship to facilitate intrapsychic work."

We will contrast three general approaches to psychotherapy: the advantages and disadvantages of a therapy based on sustained empathy and presence; when and how to support a therapeutic age-regression; and, the importance of facilitating here and now internal support. Participants will be expected to present cases from their own clinical practices for discussion and supervision.
